Why are some Buddhist temples in China dedicated to luck, money, statues and prosperity?
I went to a Chinese Buddhist temple the other day. Outside, people lined up to touch the golden Buddha for blessings and luck. Walking, I heard the sound of joss sticks (think of predicting the future). People lined up to put money on the front. In my opinion these are the opposite of what Buddha taught. He had statues around to mediate, only trees. He said he did not believe in luck or fate, because the future is what they do. He resigned all his money, do not ask for more. "Prosperity" seemed to be withdrawing from the world and its illusions rather than be dragged into it with all its amenities. That may have totally misunderstood what people in the temple, but that's what seemed be around.
Many places Buddhism is used with local religions. Porcelain, Tibet, Korea, Japan are the countries where this applies more. Especially in the Tibetan version of "Buddhism" Buddhism is so far from Current, which can hardly be called Buddhism. It's more than Bön Buddhism. Buddhism in its pure form is an atheist psychological practice.
